Trotsky sexy time and I gotta get more serious…

Posted in Misanthropic Musings on August 24, 2009 by Idi Auslander

about this blogging thing. Seriously. I have the attention span of mike tyson. I love analogies. They never have to make sense. anywho…So even though  I have little to say,  I decided to blog as some sort of character building scheme exercise. For the next six months, I shall write something every day. Now that ‘something’ is relative to say the least,  but I assure all of you reading this (just amuse me) that I will attempt to write something legible, but  on the question of substance..errr…umm..we shall see.. So here are some random thoughts that have severely haunted me this past week.

Ive come to the conclusion that my love affair with Trotsky will never end. The man is just fuckin brilliant. So I read his article, ‘The Social Roots and the Social Function of Literature’, and once again I found myself immersed with questions about the role of art in politics and society. Suffice to say, I am no Trotskyist scholar nor an cultural critic of any sorts, but I get the feeling that Trotsky felt that for the working class to truly make or appreciate ‘great art’ it must rid itself of bourgeois cultural conditioning. Thats very different from the Stalinist position that actively attacked ‘bourgeois art’, and apparently Trotsky was a defender of ‘high art’.  How one can denounce the ‘bourgeois’ underpinnings of society, but still defend the bourgeois art is beyond my little mind.

Ive attempted to read other’s articulation of Trotsky position on art, and they argue that Trotsky believed that the end of ‘high art’ was the end of civilization. His feelings on this matter became more pronounced with the onslaught of facism during the 1930′s.  What the fuck am I talking about? Jesus! Here I am trying to articulate my thoughts, conclusions, and grievances with Trotsky’s position on art, and I find myself now puzzled by Michael Vick and his fascination with degrading animals. Who am I?

urghh…OK…come on dude. try to collect your thoughts. OK! yes..Trotsky…

LOL@ the mental image of Michael Vick reading Trotsky and coming out of prison a Marxist.

I really hate the written word, and sadly I am also inadequately in spoken language, so what is one to do ponders the little girl?

Anyway…I guess my main grievances with Trotsky is his idea that the proletariat ought to construct its own cultural narrative, and only through this can socialism imprint its mark on human history. But one then asks, what in the world is ‘bourgeois’ or ‘proletariat’ cultural production? How does ones socioeconomic background influence his art? Assuming that one believes art is akin to divine revelation free from first person bias, but I guess if one believes that art is propaganda by its creator, then a proletariat culture is possible.

I cant help but think the futility of all this. As I type this, A  child in my home country is dying from starvation or malaria.   I dont know what to feel or to do with this realization. Irregardless of what I think, do, or say; suffering is going on.  All the philosophy, nihilism, and spirituality in the world can not erase this reality from my mind.

Now, like the good conditioned, morally bankrupt by product of civilization will head to bed and forget for the millionth time the suffering of billions, and prepare myself for the wage slavery that awaits in the morning :) ahhh…the wonders of being a bleeding heart liberal. I hear the person who coined that term by the way.

Here we go again..

another semester begins..the jews and arabs keep on fighting, and the african continues to be ignored. Welcome to 2009!

The fake indignation of people never ceases to amaze me. All this hoopla over a centuries old rivalry between two groups that can not for the life of the them quit this fucking shit already.

Yet, a tiny country called Zimbabwe is now home to a cholera epidemic that has claimed over 2000 lives, and guess what folks, NO ONE GIVES A FUCKING DAMN. THERE ARE NO WORLDWIDE PROTESTS. NO ONE IS TAKING TO THE STREETS OF PARIS, MILAN, TO PROTEST THE MATTER WHICH CONCERNS A DEADLY DISEASE, AND OUR ABILITIES TO FIX IT, AND OUR RELUCTANCE TO DO SO!!!!!!

I DONT KNOW WHY I AM TYPING IN CAPITALS. OK I DO, ITS BECAUSE ITS REFERRED TO AS YELLING IN THE INTERNET WORLD

SO WHY THE CAUSE OF SO MUCH MISERY IN ZIMBABWE? The cause you ask? Lack of access to clean water, and basic medicine. That is all it fucking takes people! Fucking clean water and medicine. It does not ask humanity to solve an age old tit for tat rivalry between two equally douche baggish entities(see israel vs palestine for those of you immune to my witty nicknames)

All it takes is alittle fucking compassion, and yet the world does not give a damn!

Ok the world also does not give a damn about the palestinians nor israelis, but speaking of the world not giving a damn. Something tells me that deep down, all this is making headwaves, because 1. there are some anti semitic folks out there who just love to see the jews get their hand stuck in the proverbial cookie jar 2. people love the classic narrative of david versus that goliath, and view this latest genoicide attempt (yes I said it Israel, seriously FUCK YOU) as purely entertainment.

I also laugh at the hypocrite fools living in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the Good US of A, who dare to criticise Israel for doing, what all these nations did so poetically and perfectly: steal the land of the local inhabitators, and wipe their entire race off the fucking map. How is Canada any different? if you want to call Israel a thief, then take a good fucking look in the mirror dear ole Canuck!

You are on occupied territories, and you dare critique another nation state for following suit? for following the plan for which you have implemented so poetically? Bullshit!

You want to see the equivalent of your GAZA, go to Hobbema, Alberta, or any other reserve. The aboriginals of this country are the Palestinians of today!

Ok I am so incoherent its almost pitiful, and at most depressing. I just wish i had the word play to convey this anguish I feel everytime I turn on the news. The world is a fucking mess, and I am typing away on a luxurious item, bitching and moaning, and yet people die.

Most people are too fucking stupid to give a shit, and the smart ones are up in the ivory tower, contemplating the relevance of james joyce in post colonial india. WTF? seriously this was just the topic at a recent college lecture I attended..

Or having an all out bitchfest between nominalism and objectivism( I think thats its antithesis, or atleast me thinks)!

Oh man, thats it, if there is a higher force out there, put us out of our fucking misery already. We have demonstrated time and time again that we are indeed a worthless specie, and progression is a word despised amongst our kind. We will continue to remain indifference in the face of suffering, and remain steadfast in our ability to fuck and consume. The planet is at its end, and it will be a matter of time, before homo sapien follows suit. So seriously, what are you waiting for? ET, end this shit already!

I love this man

Injustice

Ok, hands up…who else was severely disturbed by this as a child? I think this is how sociopaths were born. If any child actually found these commercials amusing, then my dear friend, you have  future gestapos on your hand. I cant help but use Trix’s plight as a fitting analogy for colonialism…It belongs to him. His fucking picture is on the front of the box, yet they insist it doesnt belong to him…hmm…errr…where have I heard this narrative before?

and yes Im aware that Ive gone too fucking far, blame Kwame Nkrumah and Edward Said k?

I love West Africans because…
